It comprises eight Permanent Exhibition Galleries of about 7,000m² and a Special Exhibition Gallery of 1,000m² for presenting changing exhibitions.

One of the highlights is undoubtedly a visit to the eight Permanent Galleries featuring "The Hong Kong Story" showcasing the dedicated hard work done by the Museum staff in the past years in collecting, preserving and researching the history and development of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Story comprises 8 galleries located on two floors with different themes namely: The Natural Environment, Pre-historic Hong Kong, the Dynasties: from Han to the Qing, Folk Culture in Hong Kong, the Opium War and the Cession of Hong Kong, Birth and Early Growth of the City, the Japanese Occupation, Modern Metropolis and the Return to China.

Through the display of over 4,000 exhibits with the use of 750 graphic panels, a number of dioramas and multi-media programmes, and enhanced with special audio-visual and lighting effects, The Hong Kong Story outlines the natural environment, folk culture and historical development of Hong Kong vividly. The exhibition, which is both entertaining and educational, starts telling the story from the Devonian period 400 million years ago and concludes with the reunification of Hong Kong with China in 1997. These 400 million years of historical and cultural journey has always aroused visitors' interest on the historical and cultural heritage of Hong Kong. Apart from the exhibition galleries, there are two Activity Rooms, the Museum Shop, the Museum Café and Resource Centre.

After our visit, refreshments will be served at the Museum Café before our return transfer
